Welcome to The Duston School (TDS) which is part of The Duston Education Trust (TDET). We are a mixed 4-19 school. The school is further enhanced through the on-site facilities of a Teaching School (TS) and a School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT). Through the TS and SCITT we are able to support teachers in the region, as well as train and accredit graduates to become excellent teachers. TDS received an Outstanding grading in all 5 Ofsted categories in November 2013 and again in February 2016, a record that we are particularly proud of.
TDS is unique. It is a high performing, successful and oversubscribed school of some 1500+ students with a secondary phase, thriving 6th Form, and a recently opened primary phase. Our facilities include extensive sports grounds, a swimming pool and state of the art purpose built curriculum suites including a designated 6th Form area. Learning here has never been more exciting.
Knowing your child is at the heart of our vision. TDET is a Trust that cares, builds possibilities and potential and nurtures what young people are and what they can become. Our motto Every child – whatever it takes underpins everything that we are trying to achieve.
We believe that TDS should provide our young people with both the currency and character to succeed. Our innovative curriculum enables them to gain the highest qualifications, acquire flexible life-long learning skills, and be ready to act responsibly as global citizens. We also promote the social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of our pupils, including a recognition and understanding of Fundamental British Values. We are committed to preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life in modern Britain and within the context of living in an International World. The challenges of being a young person today are diverse and complex, as we help prepare them to succeed in a world that will look very different from today, in which many of the jobs that they will have do not even exist yet. We work hard to ensure that attributes such as hard work, resilience, tolerance, determination and respect are developed as well as achieving the very best grades.
TDS also works hard in its outreach activities with students to support other schools, locally, nationally and internationally. This includes The Kwinella School in The Gambia. Each year, our charity activities here raise sufficient funds to feed every student in the school enough meals for 2 ½ years and we are proud that our students work very hard to give back to others. Many other achievements gained by a whole range of students appear on our website and in our newsletters. Notably in September 2014, we achieved Investors in People Gold Standard. We have also won the National Diana Award for our contributions to charity, and a couple of years ago we were awarded the National School Library Design Award of the Year. This is a privilege to receive and acknowledges the ‘thirst for learning’ at the heart of the school by all who come here. Our Governors have been finalists in The National Outstanding Governing Body of the Year Award, and the Senior Leadership Team has won the TES National Outstanding Leadership Team of the Year Award. In June 2014, we gained the prestigious Inclusion Quality Mark Award, IQM, and were accredited with Flagship Status – of which we are really proud. It endorses our equitable and inclusive approach to all that we do at TDS.
TDS is very successful in many diverse ways for all the very latest news, events, calendar dates and further information about our school, please visit other pages on this website, and don’t forget to sign up to our Twitter and Facebook accounts. The best way to find out about our school is to come and see for yourself. Our doors are always open, and we would be delighted to share our experience and time with you.
