It is my great pleasure to welcome you and your family to the Secondary Phase at The Duston School.

Starting Secondary school is an exciting milestone. It brings new opportunities, friendships, experiences and challenges, and our priority is to ensure that every child feels safe, valued, supported and ready to succeed. At The Duston School, we have high expectations because we believe in the potential of every young person. Our values underpin everything we do, helping our pupils develop into respectful, responsible, resilient and ambitious young adults.

As a school we  believe that children achieve their best when they feel that they belong. The senior team,  pastoral teams, tutors and teachers work hard to know our pupils as individuals and to provide support when they need it. Whether a child needs help with their learning, friendships, behaviour, confidence or personal development, we want them to know that there is always someone here to listen and help. We also provide an ambitious and broad curriculum that gives pupils the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to succeed. Great teaching, high expectations and a commitment to achievement ensure that our pupils are prepared for their next steps and have the qualifications and confidence to pursue their aspirations.

Underpinning all that we do is our behaviour approach, which is built upon our values of resilience, respect and aspiration. Equally though we place in stock in the value of relationships. We expect pupils to behave in a way that allows everyone to learn, feel safe and enjoy school. We recognise positive choices, respond consistently when expectations are not met and help students learn from mistakes. We believe that being caring and having high expectations should go hand in hand.

The partnership between school and home is vital. We want to work closely with families, communicate openly and share a common ambition for every child. Pupils succeed when their families support them and support the school.
