Online Safety Curriculum 

The Internet has become an integral part of our lives. Increasing access to the Internet, in and out of school, brings with it the need to ensure that our children are safe.  Internet development is constantly evolving into more innovative areas with many websites enabling creativity and interaction between peers.   

At The Duston School Primary Phase, we believe that it is crucial to teach our children how to use the Internet safely, both at home and at school. 

How Can I Ensure My Child Is Safe Online? 

Here are some steps to support keeping your child safe online. 

• Ensure you are aware which websites your children are using. Talk to your child about the websites that they use and involve yourself in their internet use. Explain to your child that you are helping them to stay safe online. 

• Wherever possible, devices should be away from bedrooms, so that it is easier for you to monitor your child’s internet use. Please also remember that games consoles can be used for online gaming and therefore your child may be able to communicate with people online. 

• Have clear expectations for when your child is online. 

• All devices that connect to the internet should have parental controls to help you set appropriate boundaries. 

• Use the privacy settings for any online apps being used by your child.
