At The Duston School, careers education is an integral part of school life. As an all-through school, we begin raising aspirations and broadening pupils’ understanding of the world of work during the Primary phase. This develops into a progressive programme of careers education, information, advice and guidance throughout Secondary and Sixth Form. We support pupils to understand their strengths, explore the opportunities available to them and make informed and ambitious decisions about their futures. Careers education is not simply about choosing a job; it is about raising aspirations, developing essential skills and ensuring that every pupil is prepared for their next steps in education, employment or training.
At The Duston School, our Careers Vision is to empower pupils to Dream big, Believe in themselves and Achieve their full potential. We strive to create a learning environment that fosters innovation, creativity and critical thinking, where pupils are inspired to pursue their passions and develop the skills necessary to succeed in their chosen career paths. Through rigorous academic programmes, personalised support and real-world experiences, we aim to equip our pupils with the knowledge, aspiration and resilience they need to make a positive and respectful impact in their communities and achieve their wildest dreams.
Our progressive careers programme supports pupils throughout their journey at The Duston School, from the Primary phase through to Sixth Form. In Primary, pupils begin to explore the world of work, encounter a range of careers and challenge stereotypes about the jobs people can do. As pupils progress through Secondary and Sixth Form, they receive increasingly personalised careers education, employer encounters, workplace experiences and independent guidance to help them make successful transitions. Careers education is delivered through the curriculum, tutor time, assemblies, workshops, visits, workplace experiences and individual guidance. We work closely with employers, universities, colleges, apprenticeship and training providers, parents, carers and community partners to bring the world of work to life.
