Assessment Principles

Assessment for learning is evident in all lessons and impacts learning within the session and planning of next steps for all children whatever their starting point. This information is then be used to give specific individual, group or whole class feedback ensuring that any misconceptions and mistakes are addressed and enabling children to improve their learning and talk confidently about it. 

Pre-learning assessments are often used to ensure that lessons are pitched appropriately and assessments subsequent to learning are planned to ascertain whether learning is secure or needs revisiting.

Appropriate assessment will depend on the age of the children, the subject being taught and stage within the sequence of learning. Strategies below are not an exhaustive list.
